Educational Edited Movies

I was looking at an article on Edited Movies and realized that if the legal loophole that allowed for ‘fair use’ creation, buying selling and renting of edited films was allowed to stand it would effectively undermine the entire basis for the 2006 court case which attempted to shut down the edited movie industry on the basis of them not being authorized to carry out their business activities due to not possessing the copyrights for distribution of edited movies.

In effect, the law states that multiple copies could be used within the classroom for ‘educational purposes’ — or edited movies for the classroom.

With the number of Mormon and conservative christian home-schoolers, the studios would effectively be fighting a battle in trying to prove that instances of sales were in fact *not* for educational purposes.

It is effectively a legal battle that couldn’t be won.

Therefore I suspect that the businesses were shut down based on the fact that they were not allowed to distribute unauthorized material, rather than going after the end consumer. I’ll have to do more research on this because as far as I know, Cougar video is no longer in the business of renting edited movies.
