Edited Movies For Sale

While studio edits, airline edits, and television edits are available for viewing, many who would like to find a nice clean edited version of many of today’s feature length Hollywood blockbuster edited movies for sale are finding it increasingly difficult.

People who wish to edit their own movies, or to remove, or edit out movie scenes that certain family oriented or those with younger viewers may find offensive, can do so themselves with personal computer based editing software. However, the convenience of having options available for those that would like to simply buy pre re-edited movies from a trusted vendor is only available to a very few consumers who are fortunate enough to live near one of the retail establishments that have not been forced out of business by the court ruling making edited movies for sale, for viewing in the homes, churches, or schools of people who find vulgar language, sexually explicit scenes, or graphic violence distasteful a violation of copyright law. There is at least on website that is sells an ebook describing the technique for creating your own edited movies.

For those who are looking for clean edited movies for sale online, the search engine results look like a battlefield littered with the dead websites of companies which used to offer edited dvds, edited movies, and family edited films. Some of these companies have morphed into companies which offer for sale or rent, original cuts of movies that are clean enough to be considered “family friendly”, but for those who are looking for a blockbuster like Titanic, or Glory, or Braveheart with the sex, nudity, language, or graphic nudity removed, they may find it difficult or impossible to find a vendor on the internet who is still in business.

In the past, there were also several big retailers with physical storefronts throughout Utah, Idaho, Colorado and other areas with large populations of conservative Christians, followers of the LDS church, religious conservatives, and those who either found the morality displayed in today’s movies offensive, had minors in their home, or wanted to show the edited movies to groups where minors or those that found the content objectionable would be present.

These sellers of edited movies used to stapled the original DVD into the movie jacket alongside the clean edited version. Therefore, the studios were receiving their royalties (for the original DVD) and customers were able to enjoy clean family films in the privacy of their own homes.

However, in 2006 several of the largest edited dvd retailers and rental outlets were jointly sued by the studios and directors for copyright infringement. The studios and directors prevailed in the US district courts, and the DVD sellers concluded that an appeal and protracted legal battle was not in the best interests of their shareholders and would put the companies out of business anyways. As part of the settlement, those selling the edited movies were allowed to ‘wind down’ their inventory and most officially closed their doors in early 2007.

For those who still wanted to buy edited movies, there are very few places who still make them available, but most all known to me are small retail outlets, where if no one complains the lawyers in New York that work for the Hollywood studios are none the wiser.

Since there is still ample evidence that demand still exists, several websites have been launched to try to fill this demand. However, for the most part, the director’s guild and the studios have been quite fast to put these websites out of business.
