For those that are uninitiated, dofollow refers to the supposed passing of google pagerank between pages that link to one another.

Some wiley search engine marketers got wise to the fact that they could enhance their stature by posting inane and vacuous comments on others’ blogs and it go so bad that by default most of the most popular blogging software has gone to nofollow by default — meaning they pass no page rank.

i was reading this blog here Do Follow List and decided that i may try to do the same thing with my own edited movie blog.

The Hangover won the comedic-film prize, while Up and The Cove continued their sweeps of the animated and documentary guild awards.

Roman Polanski’s political thriller, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor, was almost not completed due to Polanski’s arrest.

He was detained in Europe last year while “The Ghost Writer” was in post production. Polanski edited the movie from his jail cell, according to the movie’s stars.

“He would be in his nine-foot by four-foot cell, edit the movie and give it to the warden. The warden would give it to his lawyer [who would] then give it to the editor,” Brosnan told CNN.

In a well publicized case, Polanski was arrested in September for an outstanding U.S. arrest warrant dating back to 1978.

He plead guilty to a single count of having unlawful sex with a minor. He left and expatriated from the US before the sentence was handed down from the court.

The director, under arrest in Switzerland is fighting extradition and was not able to attend the movie’s premiere in Germany.

The producers were very worried that another director would have to be brought in post-production to finish the movie editing

Brosnan’s character in the film is very similar to Tony Blair, the former British prime minister who faced a grilling at a public inquiry earlier this year over his controversial decision to send UK troops to Iraq in 2003.

Polanski’s work has included “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Chinatown.” In 2003 he won a best director Oscar for “The Pianist,” collected on his behalf by Harrison Ford.

While the completed movie has gotten good reviews, Polanski was still looking to improve thesound for the film in the final edit.

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) breaks up their nominations into several categories.

For Feature Editing Honors (a full length feature film) the nominees are:

The Hurt Locker
Up in the Air
District 9
Star Trek, and
of course, Avatar.

There were some really great editing on several of those films but it would be hard to believe that any movie other than Avatar would win this award since it’s been a booming commercial success — the most successful box office to date, without factoring in inflation. And, one of the most dramatic and interesting parts of the feature is the way the animation and live action is sewn together to create a seamless and enjoyable experience for the viewer and in my opinion one of the best edited movies of all time.

For animation editing the nominees include:

Coraline and Mr. Fox
Up

and for a Musical or Comedy editing there is:

Julie and Julia
The Hangover
It’s Complicated
500 Days of Summer, and
A Serious Man

For documentary film makers the list of finalists for the award include:

The Cove
Food Inc., and Michael Jackson’s documentary following his preparations for the concert that would never be,
This is It.

Congratulations to all of the nominees (it’s an honor just to be nominated :) ) and good luck. Awards season is just getting underway and a win here could propel the winner onto the red carpet of the academy awards….not that anyone cares about awards!

]]> http://www.edited-movies.com/best-edited-movies-of-2009/feed/ 0 Educational Edited Movies http://www.edited-movies.com/educational-edited-movies/ http://www.edited-movies.com/educational-edited-movies/#comments Mon, 25 Jan 2010 14:29:17 +0000 edited movies http://www.edited-movies.com/?p=131 I was looking at an article on Edited Movies and realized that if the legal loophole that allowed for ‘fair use’ creation, buying selling and renting of edited films was allowed to stand it would effectively undermine the entire basis for the 2006 court case which attempted to shut down the edited movie industry on the basis of them not being authorized to carry out their business activities due to not possessing the copyrights for distribution of edited movies.

In effect, the law states that multiple copies could be used within the classroom for ‘educational purposes’ — or edited movies for the classroom.

With the number of Mormon and conservative christian home-schoolers, the studios would effectively be fighting a battle in trying to prove that instances of sales were in fact *not* for educational purposes.

It is effectively a legal battle that couldn’t be won.

Therefore I suspect that the businesses were shut down based on the fact that they were not allowed to distribute unauthorized material, rather than going after the end consumer. I’ll have to do more research on this because as far as I know, Cougar video is no longer in the business of renting edited movies.
